I opened the door.
âOh, no!â I went to shut it, but I wasnât fast enough, and he was able to barge into my apartment. Annoyed and confused, I questioned, âWhat are you doing here?â
âIâm here to pick you up.â
âExcuse me, what?â
âYou heard me, Evie.â
âI may have heard you, Caleb, but I have no idea what youâre picking me up for.â
âYouâre flying to Miami with me.â
âNo, Iâm not.â
âDarlinâââ
âHow many times have I told you to stop calling me that?â
âAs many times as Iâve told you that youâre a pain in my ass.â
âThen why are you here?â
âBecause I donât have a choice. Your brotââ
âOh. My. God. Iâm going to kill Jax. Iâve told him a hundred times now I donât need youââ
âYouâre coming to Miami with me whether you want to or not, so grab your shit, and letâs go. We have a flight to catch and unlike you, I donât like wasting peopleâs time.â
She glared at me. âYou canât just boss me around.â
âWatch me.â With that, he grabbed my wrist and tugged me toward him.
âCaleb, donât you darââ
He leaned over and abruptly picked me up, completely unfazed by my weak attempt to fight him off.
âStop manhandling me!â
He threw me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing.
âStop pretending like you donât want me to.â
He grabbed my bag, and we were out my door which now automatically locked on its own. One night out of nowhere, Caleb showed up at my apartment with a keyless lock.
âYouâve got to be kidding me?â I contended.
âYou wonât lock your doors. Now you donât have to. Itâll lock for you.â
âIâm going to kill my brother.â
âThis wasnât from your brother.â
I jerked back, shocked. âWait, what?â
He didnât reply, and Iâd be lying if I said I didnât want him to.
âYou arrogant asshole!â I thrashed around to no avail. Giving up on my struggle, I knew it was no useâhe was built like a brick house.
Minutes later, he sat me down in the passenger seat of his car, ordering me to put the seat belt on. I didnât talk to him the whole ride to the airport, staring out the window with my arms folded over my chest in defiance.
Except, we didnât pull into the airport like I assumed we would. We drove into what appeared to be a private hangar. I wanted to ask whose plane we were taking, but I didnât want him to think I was impressed. However, I was. Iâd never flown on a private jet before.
âAre you going to walk, or do I have to carry you again? Because either way, youâre getting on that plane.â
âThis is bullshit.â
âNo. Whatâs bullshit is the way youâre acting. Donât you want to see Jax win the Super Bowl?â
I sighed, taking in what he was questioning.
He was right.
âFine.â
I refused to show him any interest, sitting as far away from him on the plane as I possibly could. I watched a movie through the entire flight, feeling his eyes on the side of my face the whole time. Two and a half hours later, we landed with a driver waiting for us.
